1. Assembly
The elastics must be worn according to the doctor's instructions, all day long.
2. Removal
The elastics and clear retainer must be removed while eating, drinking hot drinks, and before brushing your teeth.
3. Cleaning
The clear retainer should be cleaned at least once a day, using cold tap water and liquid soap. There is no need to brush the retainer or soak it into any liquids, as this may cause increased wear and tear and premature breakage.
4. Malfunctions
If the retainer is lost, you should stop wearing the elastics and see an orthodontist for assesing if there is a need for a new retainer.
5. Discomfort and pain
Discomfort may occur in the days following the begin of treatment, as the teeth begin to move. Discomfort is common and will subside within a few days. If there is more significant pain (rare) - painkillers can be used for a short period of time.
5. Sores in the oral cavity
Minor sores and abrasions in the oral cavity may occur, especially at the beginning of treatment, and are due to the fact that the oral tissues have not yet had time to get used to the new appliances. You can use the wax provided to you if abrasions appear as a result of the new appliances.
5. Strictly maintaining oral and dental hygiene
You should brush your teeth at least twice a day for 3 minutes each time, making sure to brush where the teeth meet the gums, and also use mouthwash to your daily care routine.
It is of great importance to strictly maintain hygiene, so as to avoid irreversible discoloration of the teeth, as well as infections and gum disease.
In addition, good hygiene speeds up the completion of orthodontic treatment because there is no need to waste time on dealing with side effects.
