1. Eating guidelines for the course of orthodontic treatment

It is recommended not to eat for 30-60 minutes after the brackets are bonded. During this time, you can drink.

The next foods are recommended to avoid eating, to reduce the risk of debonded brackets:

  • Hard foods - nuts, peanuts, popcorn, hard fruits and vegetables (carrots, apples - it is recommended to cut them to thin slices or make juice from them, and in any case do not bite into the apple or carrot because this might cause the brackets to debond).

  • Sticky foods - such as toffee candies and chewing gum.

2. Discomfort and pain

Discomfort may occur in the days following the bonding of the brackets, due to the fact that the teeth movement begin. Discomfort is common, and usually passes within a few days. If there is more significant pain (rare) - painkillers can be used for a short period.

3. Sores in the oral cavity

Minor sores and abrasions in the oral cavity are common in the period after the cubes are glued, and result from the fact that the oral tissues have not yet had time to get used to the new metal in the mouth. If there is a bracket that causes rubbing or a wound on the inside of the cheek, you can put a little orthodontic wax on it, which is provided by us on the day the brackets are bonded.

4. Maintain strict oral and dental hygiene

You should brush your teeth at least twice a day for 3 minutes each time, making sure to brush along the edges of the braces and the gingival line, and also use mouthwash daily. It is very important to maintain strict hygiene, so that irreversible changes in tooth color do not occur, as well as infections and gum disease. In addition, good hygiene speeds up the completion of orthodontic treatment because there is no need to deal with side effects.

5. Debonded Brackets

A debonded bracket can fall into the mouth or remain hanging on the archwire. The bracket should be placed in a small plastic bag and brought with you to the next appointment. If there is no significant interference - you can wait until the next appointment, during which we will reattach the debonded bracket. If there is significant interference from a debonded bracket - you should schedule a short appointment at our clinic, to rebond the bracket.
